Part 107 Test Cost and Testing Locations
By Part 107 HQ · Updated
The Remote Pilot knowledge test, Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG), is given at testing centers run by PSI Services, the FAA’s testing vendor (FAA ATCA, September 2026, p. 3; Remote Pilot ACS, p. A-2). This guide collects what the FAA and PSI documents say about cost, booking, identification, results and retakes, as of October 2026. This site is independent and not affiliated with the FAA or PSI; you book and pay through PSI.
How much the test costs
According to the FAA drone FAQ, knowledge testing centers charge approximately $175 for the initial aeronautical knowledge test (as of October 2026). Neither the PSI bulletin nor the FAA testing pages state an exact current price, so confirm it in PSI’s booking system; the ACS sends applicants to PSI to register, schedule and pay for the test (Remote Pilot ACS, p. A-2).
Related costs:
- Late arrival: you may not be admitted and may forfeit your examination registration fee (PSI UAG bulletin, p. 2).
- Site closure: if severe weather or another emergency closes the test site, your exam is rescheduled at no additional charge (PSI, p. 2).
- Free courses: the online training for Part 61 pilots and the recurrent courses cost nothing (FAA; ALC-451).
- Drone registration: as of October 2026, Part 107 registration costs $5 per drone and is valid for three years (FAA: How to Register Your Drone).
Where to take it
The UAG exam is available at PSI’s FAA-approved testing centers (PSI UAG bulletin, p. 2). To find one near you, open the “Find a Test Center” tab on PSI’s True Talent website and enter your postal code, country, distance and desired exam (FAA Airman Testing FAQ, p. 2).
How to book
- Get an FAA Tracking Number (FTN) first by creating a profile in IACRA. The FTN is printed on your test report (FAA Testing Matrix, p. 1).
- Create an account or sign in on PSI’s scheduling website, faa.psiexams.com, which is available 24 hours a day (PSI UAG bulletin, p. 2).
- Choose a date, time and location. PSI emails a confirmation with the test date, time, site address and directions (PSI UAG bulletin, p. 2).
More booking rules from the PSI UAG bulletin, p. 2:
- Phone: PSI’s scheduling line is 844-704-1487, with live operators on weekdays and weekends.
- Accommodations: after you select the test, the booking site asks whether you require accommodations; answering “yes” sends your information to PSI’s accommodations team.
- Cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours before the exam. A voicemail is not an acceptable cancellation; speak to a customer service representative.
- Missed appointment: if you do not appear, arrive after the start time, or lack proper identification, you may forfeit your opportunity to test.
The UAG requires no instructor endorsement or other written authorization (FAA Testing Matrix, p. 15). The FAA also reports that PSI is moving its certification exams to its Test Taker Portal, with FAA exam content, standards, oversight and security unchanged (ATCA, September 2026, p. 4).
What ID to bring
Your identification must be valid and current and show your photo, date of birth, signature and physical residential address; the information may come from more than one document (FAA Testing Matrix, p. 1; PSI UAG bulletin, pp. 2–3).
- U.S. citizens and resident aliens: a driver permit or license issued by a U.S. state or territory, a U.S. government ID card, a U.S. military ID card, a passport, or an alien residency card.
- Non-U.S. citizens: a passport and either a driver permit or license issued by a U.S. state or territory or an ID card issued by any government entity.
- No residential address on your ID: you may use a parent’s physical residential address, or bring an accepted address document such as a utility statement (not a cable bill), a signed lease, a mortgage statement or a voter registration card. A post office box, rural route, flight school address (unless you live at the school) or business address is not accepted.
- Under 18 without acceptable ID: a parent or legal guardian must accompany you and, after presenting their own ID, may attest to your identity.
You must be at least 14 to take the test (FAA Testing Matrix, p. 15). Your date of birth must show that you meet, or will meet, the certificate’s age requirement of 16 before your test report expires (14 CFR 107.67(b); 14 CFR 107.61). Failing to provide all the required ID without notifying PSI counts as a missed appointment (PSI UAG bulletin, p. 3).
On test day
- PSI recommends arriving at least 15 minutes early for check-in and ID verification (PSI, p. 2).
- Phones, watches, wallets, backpacks, pens and pencils, food and drinks, hats (except religious apparel), coats and hooded clothing are not permitted in the testing room. The test center provides the supplement book, scratch paper and a writing instrument, and the software has a built-in four-function calculator (PSI, p. 5).
- The test has 60 scored questions plus 5 unscored validation questions and a 120-minute limit (PSI, p. 4).
Results
- You receive a printed Airman Knowledge Test Report (AKTR) immediately after the test (ACS, p. A-5). It shows your name, FTN, score and the ACS codes related to any questions you answered incorrectly (FAA Airman Testing FAQ, p. 3; FAA Testing Matrix, p. 15).
- The passing score is 70% (PSI, p. 4), which is 42 of the 60 scored questions.
- You can reprint your results from your PSI True Talent account (PSI, p. 6).
- It may take up to 48 hours from the test date for your test to appear in IACRA, where you enter its 17-digit Knowledge Test Exam ID to apply for your certificate (FAA).
How long a passing result is valid
A passing AKTR is valid for 24 calendar months when you apply for the Remote Pilot Certificate (ACS, p. A-5); the application steps are in how to get your Part 107 certificate. After you are certificated, you stay current by completing free online training every 24 calendar months (FAA; see Part 107 recurrent training).
Retake rules
- After a failure you may not reapply for the test for 14 calendar days (14 CFR 107.71).
- To retest after failing, you must submit the failed AKTR to the testing center before retesting. No instructor endorsement or other written authorization is required (FAA Testing Matrix, p. 15).
- The matrix also lists a passing or an expired AKTR as acceptable authorization for a retest.
- The FAA and PSI documents do not state a separate retest fee; check the price with PSI when you book.
The ACS codes on a failed report point to the areas you missed (FAA Airman Testing FAQ, p. 3). Review those topics with the regulations, airspace, weather, loading and performance and operations questions, then try a timed mock exam before you rebook.
