Part 107 practice questions

What is Part 107 HQ?

Part 107 HQ is an independent English-language study site for the FAA initial Remote Pilot knowledge test (UAG). It offers free practice questions, study guides and a timed mock exam, plus paid plans for the complete question bank and additional study tools. It is not affiliated with the FAA or any testing provider.

What is the Part 107 test?

It is the FAA initial aeronautical knowledge test for remote pilots, officially called Unmanned Aircraft General – Small (UAG). Passing it is the main step to a Remote Pilot Certificate, which you need to fly a small drone under 14 CFR Part 107 — for example for paid work or any flight that is not purely recreational. You take it in person at an FAA-approved knowledge testing center.

How many questions are on the Part 107 test and what is the passing score?

60 scored multiple-choice questions with three answer choices each, plus 5 unscored validation questions that do not count toward your score. You have 2 hours for all of them, and you need 70% to pass — at least 42 of the 60 scored questions correct.

Is this Part 107 practice test free?

Yes. A free sample of questions in every area, with full explanations and sources, the study guides and one full-length mock exam are free and need no account.

Paid plans start at $19 for the complete question bank. Exam Ready ($39) adds unlimited fresh mock exams, topic analysis and a daily study plan. Exam Ready Plus ($59) adds a printable revision pack. If it is not for you, refund yourself within 7 days on the My access page.

What changes on the Part 107 test on October 26, 2026?

The FAA announced that from October 26, 2026 the UAG test includes image-based questions that are not in the testing supplement, using images from the latest sectional charts. Expect to read airspace, airport and obstacle information from current chart excerpts, not just from the familiar supplement figures.

How is this different from the FAA sample questions?

The FAA sample questions are a useful preview, but there are only a few and they come with an answer key, not explanations. Here every question explains the answer and links to the rule or handbook page it is based on, you can practice by topic, repeat what you missed, and sit timed mock exams.

Is this site affiliated with the FAA?

No. Part 107 HQ is an independent study site. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the FAA or any testing provider. The questions are written for practice; they are not the actual test questions.

Do I have to retake the test every two years?

No. After passing the initial test you stay current by completing the FAA free online recurrent training every 24 calendar months, as 14 CFR 107.65 requires. There is no recurrent knowledge test to schedule.

Know the format

Preparing for the FAA Remote Pilot test.

This free Part 107 practice test covers the five areas of the FAA Remote Pilot knowledge test (UAG): regulations, airspace and sectional charts, weather, loading and performance, and operations. Answer a question and you immediately see why the right answer is right, why the other choices are wrong, and the exact source it is based on — usually a section of 14 CFR Part 107 or a page in an FAA handbook — with a link to the official text.

The real test has 60 scored multiple-choice questions with three choices each, a 2-hour time limit and a passing score of 70 percent. Since September 29, 2025, regulations make up almost half of it (48%), followed by operations (25%) and airspace (20%), with weather and loading and performance only a small share. The mock exam here uses the same proportions: the clock runs, and you see the answers only after you submit.

From October 26, 2026, the FAA adds image-based questions that use the latest sectional charts instead of only the figures in the testing supplement book. Our chart questions are built from the current FAA sectional charts, and their answers are checked against FAA airspace and airport data rather than guessed from the picture.
